After Fall Break – Update on Forward Planning (for faculty and instructors)
To: All faculty and instructors
From: Kelly Long, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs
Nov. 2, 2020
Dear Colleagues:
This message provides information about University and academic operations after Fall Break. Campus will remain open while all classes will be delivered remotely. Students who remain in Fort Collins may need access to CSU resources and spaces. Although the University will remain open to serve students, faculty and staff, some offices may reduce their hours of in-person operations.
Some of the information below on course instruction and exams was shared in a Wed., Oct. 21, email from Provost Pedersen:
Course Instruction & Delivery
- All classes are to be delivered virtually the last two weeks of classes (November 30-December 11) and finals week (December 14-18).
- Course instruction and assessment must continue after Fall Break through the scheduled end of the academic semester. All regular exams and final exams must be administered remotely. In-person exams are not permitted.
- Technology support will continue to be available to faculty to facilitate remote course delivery.
- Proctoring for online exams will remain the same:
- Faculty should continue to use CSU’s existing online proctoring platforms: Respondus’ LockDown Browser and Monitor for resident instruction (RI) courses or Honorlock (for online courses offered to distance students).
- Faculty are strongly encouraged to be flexible with students whose technology or other circumstances prevent their use of an online proctoring platform. The University Testing Center (UTC) staff typically work with faculty and students to suggest alternatives.
- Please email proctoring support if you have questions.
- Consistent with our existing policy, no exams or major assignments individually weighted at more than 10% of a student’s overall grade should be administered in the week (December 7-11) prior to finals week.
Access to Buildings, Labs, Morgan Library and Other Spaces
Morgan Library will provide access for faculty and students during and after Fall Break. Library hours can be found at: https://lib.colostate.edu/about/hours/.
More information will be forthcoming on access to labs, study spaces, classrooms and other locations during and after Fall Break.
As Provost Pedersen noted in her Oct. 21 email, all public health guidelines implemented for the fall semester will continue for the remainder of the semester and through finals week. Any faculty, staff and students coming to any CSU campus after Fall Break will still need to comply with all health protocols including physical distancing, wearing masks, and reporting symptoms through the CSU’s COVID Information & Resources website.
Sincerely,
The Teaching Continuity & Recovery Work Group
